Unneeded and unexpected mileage charges
Regular audits with an experienced telecom consultant can be vital.
During a routine audit, we found that their provider of voice circuits had added an unnecessary “mileage” charge to the account after services were installed. This charge had increased annually for over 10 years until the total amount of the bill was at least twice that of the originally contracted service, despite frequent requests from the customer to explain the new charge.
We approached the provider to eliminate the mileage charge and although the charge was agreed to have been added in error, the carrier initially refused to credit more than 90 days of the charges. State law overrode that provider’s positioning, and the customer received a refund of $200,000.
